When we decided to come active duty, we (my husband and I) decided it was best for me to stay home with the kids and not work for a while, at least until all the kids were in school. That has worked out very much in our favor as I am able to do many things with them and I get to raise my own kids! That being said, we've recently started the Financial Peace University by Dave Ramsey and wanted to brimg in some extra income to help us pay off some debt a little faster... so I began looking for "side jobs" or things I could do for extra money. I signed up with Door Dash, I offered to babysit, and came very close to applying for an overnight stocker position at our commissary on post but I tried to leave that as a last resort.
Well, by the time I got released to full activity from my surgeon, I decided it was time to apply for that stocker position. While trying to fimd the phone number to call (it was posted in a Facebook group), I came across this jop offer that said "part time assistant needed for property manager. Hours would be Tuesday and Thursday from 10am to 2pm and pay is $15/hour. PM for more information if interested". Well of course I messaged right away!! I had an interview the very next day and while at the interview, she told me she'd like to make a decision that day and have the person start on the day after which was a Thursday.
Long story short, I got the job and started working right away! I recently received my first paycheck from this job and the kids had VBS that night so after I dropped them off, I went to Safeway to get a few things for the house and some snacks I could take to work with me. I had 2 1/2 hours to look around (not good for someone like me with a food addiction and no shopping list) and found myself finding a lot of things I could have, meaning low carbs, low sugat, and high protein snacks.. so I get to the checkout with my buggy full of snacks, and the total was a whopping $108!!!! I was a little flabbergasted but at that point, there's not much you can do. Now mind you, I deposited my check into a separate account from the one my husband and I share (we decided it was better to keep separate to prevent confusion and overspending as we have a budget for his income) and I planned to purchase these snacks with that paycheck.
So I go to insert my card into the chip reader and a message reads "not authorized" and the cashier tells me my card didn't work. I try again (cause these things are dumb sometimes) and the message reads "not authorized" and the cashier tells me her message says "insufficient funds". So I think about it for a minute and I check my bank again to see if I forgot to deposit the check of something (I haven't used this account since my last job over a year ago so beginning balance was $0.00) but it said my balance was well over the $108 I was trying to spend. I told the cashier I was going to step outside and call the bank and see why it wasn't working and I did just that. I called Capital One and told the lady what happened and she said there was no problems with my account and that my card should be working fine...but then she jokingly said "maybe God is telling you that you don't need it" and then it hit me! That's exactly what was happening! The card reader was working, my bank had the money ready to spend, and the card was working fine, but all those snacks were not good for me and would have probably been harmful to my new stomach (what the dietitian refers to as "slider foods" to be discussed in the next post) and cause me to stop or slow loosing weight or even gain some.
Moral of the story is that GOD IS GOOD all the time!
Thank you Lord for not lettimg my card go through and showing me that I need to be better prepared before I go shopping for snacks. Thank you for making me see how far I've come and showing me that I was about to make a huge mistake! Lord help me to stay strong in this journey and stay by my side for when temptation comes my way again I will trust in You to be my courage and strength to stand my ground! I ask Lord that anyone who may be struggling with this kind of issue Lord that you would touch them and help them see the right decisions from the wrong ones and that they would seek Your Word and find understanding in it. Lord, thank you for being with me yesterday and every day. In Your son, Jesus, precious name, Amen.
Much love y'all!! Until next time,
Kay
