Sized up

Isn't it funny how your whole body, your whole external being can be sized up by a series of numbers on a measuring tape? I think there is so much more to each of us regardless of what size clothes we wear or what our exterior looks like. God created us to be so very much more than what we look like. If our exterior resembled what was in our hearts, would we be better off? or worse?? With that being said..the time had come to take my starting measurements.. I knew it wouldn't be fun but it was definitely necessary! I'm not far enough away from those dreadful numbers to share them yet but I will say that from May 22nd to June 23rd, I have lost over 10 inches total!!! Now the numbers on the scale, those I'll share with you. So I'll give them all to you from start to finish..

Highest recorded weight 336 pounds. (September 2018)

Pre op diet start weight 318 pounds. (May 3rd 2019)

Surgery day weight 307 pounds. (May 17th 2019)

1 week post op weight (12 days after surgery) 290 pounds (May 29th 2019)

1 month (30 days, not actual appt) 288 pounds (June 17th 2019)

Today (5 weeks post) 286 pounds. (June 23rd 2019)

On the scale, it looks like I have stopped loosing weight and I'll be 100% honest, I thought that and was starting to let it depress me for several days.. then I was sent an image showing the healing phases and loosing phases like I hadn't seen it explained before. It said that the first 2-3 weeks is mostly water weight, bloating from surgery, and the lack of food you're able to intake being on a liquid diet. Then, over weeks 4-6 is the latter half of the internal healing while you're introducing whole solid foods back into your diet and your new stomach. Then around week 6-7 you start to really drastically loose up to 80% of your excess body weight over the next 6-12 months. Now 6-12 months sounds like a long time but in reality, when you're loosing 15-30 pounds each month, that's a LOT! That's why this journey has to be closely monitored by your surgical team. I thank God for my surgical team at MAMC!

I am ready to start loosing more but I am also a bit nervous! I have always been big and I have no idea how to feel about the possibility of not being so much bigger than everyone in my family. I'm super excited! I also have this family camp trip to British Columbia, Canada coming up at the end of August and I am determined to be down at least 50 pounds from my start weight (surgery day weight of 307) before this trip!

That's all for measurements and such. Watch for my next post coming up soon. It will be about bariatric surgery for the people who don't know much about it and for those who have never really had much reason to research it. It will kinda tell you all the things that change after having surgery other than just the anatomy of your stomach. Some interesting, some not so much lol. Keep following to find out more.

Also, if there is anything y'all want me to include or write bout or just questions in general, I'm going to try and do at least a weekly post just answering questions if I have too many to answer directly! Please share my story with your family and friends that may be interested in walking with me and learning more about my journey and how to overcome food addictions!

Much love y'all. Until next time,

Kay
