Temptation

Temptation is everywhere. The sad truth is that the only thing you can do about it is train yourself to overcome the urges. It will never go away and I'm convinced it'll get even more tempting pretty soon. Let me tell you about my experience yesterday with temptation.

As I have stated previously, my husband is in the Army and we had a potluck yesterday at a park and everyone brought a dish and there was someone grilling burgers and hotdogs. Now, I have also stated I have always had a very severe addiction to sweets! So we go to this meeting/potluck preparing to eat dinner (it was in the evening) and not cook at home. I had bought 2 seedless watermelons to take as my dish. We got to the park and all was well, the kids were playing, people were mingling, etc.. then the time came to make a plate for the kids. Now our oldest 2 (12 and 9) make their own plates but our youngest 2 (7 and 3) do not. I usually make the 3 yr olds plate so off I go to start down the line. I made her a hot dog, got her a little slice of pizza, some potato salad and some chips. Now I know you're probably wondering why the items are so random and the reason is this.. more people went and bought sweets to bring than actual healthy-ish food.

The sweets included strawberries and whip cream, cupcakes, brownies, brownie cake with m&ms, cheesecakes, and pies.. I have never noticed how much unhealthy things were so much more quickly accessible than healthy foods..! After making a plate for my daughter and sitting her down the line was so long to make myself one there was nothing left that I could eat. There were people standing by the grills waiting on burgers and hot dogs and they couldn't grill them fast enough.

I say this all to point out that yes, I could have went and gotten a lot of sweets like before surgery but they would've made me so sick! For people who have no dietary restrictions, I have no idea how they do it! If I wasn't scared of what would happen if I ate a brownie, there was nothing else stopping me from getting one yesterday! I know I haven't really had time to train myself for temptation like that yet as I'm only a little over a month out from surgery but with 4 kids who love to eat and especially love desserts, I'll be the first one to say, IT'S HARD y'all! Watching my entire family enjoy the things I still want to enjoy is hard! Watching a whole park full of people talk about how good those gooey brownies are is hard! When your kids forget you can't have those things and offer you a bite, it's hard! I honestly don't know how people who just choose to live this healthy lifestyle do it! I truly am so glad I was able to have this surgery which restricts my intake, especially sweets, because I feel like it would've taken some drastic health change in a negative way for me to have mustered up the will power to choose to stop eating these extremely unhealthy things that do nothing but bad things to my body!

It's possible to change y'all. It's possible to be healthy. It's possible for you to overcome these addictions to sweets, to overeating, to emotional eating, to binge eating, anything you're going through right now where you may feel like it's impossible to get through You Can Change!

Temptation is only an obstacle on your path to success!!
